Mark Harris, Associate Energy Engineer

Mark grew up on Lake Superior and loves surfing the Great Lakes. He also enjoys riding the wave of sustainability as he works with Energy Insight customers to maximize the benefits and rewards of energy efficiency.

A desire to make the world better runs in Mark’s genes. Raised by environmental educators who “set a high bar,” Mark earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth, then spent a year with AmeriCorps VISTA, fighting poverty in Duluth through residential energy efficiency. He also earned an Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) credential through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

As part of the Energy Insight team, Mark travels the region helping businesses identify and complete energy conservation projects. He likes discovering new energy-saving technologies and strategies that make the economy greener and is eager to share them with customers. He responds well to friendliness and appreciates people willing to view situations from new perspectives.

Water is an energizing force in Mark’s life, from surfing, kayaking, and canoeing to his new passion for kiteboarding. Known by the childhood nickname of Sparkles, he has spent countless hours in a wetsuit. A bit of trivia: Mark once overslept and missed an opportunity to set the stage for a KISS concert. No Sparkles that day!
